Beautiful Banality is a factual account of one international couple’s banal and ordinary life in one of the toughest cities in the world, New York City.
In 2017, Fernanda and Michael met in the library at Parsons on the corner of 14th Street and 5th Avenue. Michael was getting his MFA in Creative Writing from The New School; he always dreamed of being a published writer. Fernanda was finishing her first semester at Parsons Fashion and Design; she always dreamed of being a creative director at a luxury fashion brand.
The day their lives intersected things got far more complicated for both of them, in good and bad ways.
Good. They fell in love.
Bad. They had to make their lives work in harmony, both parties full of their own separate ambitions, from which their struggles and passions naturally arose great friction between them.
But this is every couple’s struggle – the finding of a balance in the never-ending pursuit of success in a career of one’s choosing – all the while trying, desperately, hand-in-hand, to snatch a little light and keep out of the darkness for a while.
Fernanda and Michael’s journey is seen through the eyes and written by Michael Arthur Karpienski.
